kentkent. In my view, the tie inclusion is definetely not questionable. It's just another accessory. In this particular case, the tie is where most of the times the fragrance is sprayed or sprinkled on.

the candle balances the picture but you might have used something else

maybe the candle repsents a little touch of romance to his manly scent, something about his soft side. I like this would make a good magazine shot

Epazia, I can understand you dislike the candle in the shot. In terms of likes, there's nothing written, it's all very abstract and personal. So, it's hard to please everyone and it's even harder to reach a unanimous opinion about anything. For instance, I know people who worship Picasso and others despise his work. Don't get me wrong, I'm not whatsoever comparing this humble photo with Picasso´s work.

Regarding, the setting of the candle in the picture all I can say is it was conceived like that on purpose. Firstly, the shot was taken at a really low speed with a long time of exposure and in a dark environment, I needed some light. Seconly, the light of the candle was intended to pass through the glass to reflect the yellow color of the tie and get that yellowish shade to make the name of the perfume look conspicuous and also to highlight the reflection of the drops of water on the crystal for the perfume's name is Acqua...= Water. The main goal was that of resembling one of those advertisements you find on a magazine as outbackjack suggested.

you might want to read the contest guideline, my comment referred to rather you were bringing both elements into the shot if you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen

That's right I hadn't even read the guidelines. I thought it was all about showing a bottle of perfume. It's OK. This isn't hot in here at all, this is all for fun or at least that's the way I see it. As I'm new here I don't know how things work yet. If there's no animosity on your behalf there isn't animosity on my side either. Huge misunderstanding.
