Howdy there, my good native speakers of the English language, this is jero calling, and no whining this time around! Came across this toughy while translating my latest book. Does any of you have any idea what the phrase BEETLE BLADE means? You help me, and next time you come to Greece, I'll buy you one full souvlaki, complete with French fries, onion rings and a blob of whale blubber

yes, that would be great.

beetle is a bug and blade is also used for wing, or bug wing. It would be better if we could hear the expression in the context of something. :)

In german it is used to express something tiny or very short time, like "blink of an eye"

The only other thing I can think of other than this is a blade in beetle shape :-\

Wow, wow, and again wow, guys! I can't thank you enough!!! Yes, I found it too as car bumper but this is an entirely different story. The book is titled THE MAZE RUNNER, penned by a certain James Dashner, it deals with a fantasy horror world, and the author crafts his own vocabulary, one known only to him. There is a plethora of words not to be found in any dictionary and/or thesaurus, and in the beginning I had it so hard understanding what he was talking about, that I had to send him an e-mail, asking for his lights, pertaining to a good number of words and phrases. He was kind enough to assist me, but of-course it would have been quite unprofessional on part to bother him with repeated e-mails. Neologisms are the norm of the day, and may good Lord have mercy on me. To give you an example: There is this word, "klunk", and it refers to the thud produced by a falling turd, once it hits the bottom of a night pot. Syy, what?

Once again, thank you very much all of you, for being there for me. I'd most probably end up in jail for ruining this one, heh heh! :YMALIEN: :YMALIEN:

Yes, this I'll do, Marksquirrel. Then I'll red flag myself, and get it done and over with. Read in context, the phrase must refer to a mechanical bug of some sort. The Catch 22 in this case is that the guy invents his own words and phrases, the meaning of which is known only to him, and this is why he was kind enough to be there for me, helping me whenever in doubt about something. The wise thing to do I guess is for me to make a list with all those words and phrases, then e-mail it to him, once I have finished translating the entire book.

Nevertheless I wish to thank all of you, good people, for your kind assistance

Jero
