This did take a few shots to get, maybe ten or so.

I had this in a contest sometime last year, but I thought it was in fur and feathers. I think your right, zambyoo, I forgot.

Where does the fur come into it. Just curious when you said it had been entered in the fur and feathers contest. Great shot by the way.

Close to perfect. Lighting seems a bit arbitrary, and so does dof. I think shooting at f/4 or even more open would look better, blurring the background more and by this enhancing the 'felt' sharpness of the drops. In any case, great freezing, the rest is just practicing.

If i set the aperture to f:4 i don't have the speed i need for "freezing" the drops(1/2000).My camera gives me 1/1300 when i set the f value to f:4.Is that enough to freeze the water drops...?About the DOF...i have seen photos where the b/g is COMPLETELY blured & the shape of the background is only visible through the drops.This has to do with the f value i guess....The smallest the f value is i get more blured b/g...?

Indeed -- the f:stop is aperture The wider you open (the lower the number) the more the background will blur. However, NO camera I know about syncs flash at 1/2000. Even 1/500 is very rare -- 1/250 or even 1/60 are the most popular sync speeds. Thus I suppose you camera lets you dial in anything but goes to its sync speed if the flash gets engaged. And your camera is broken, when it changes 1/2000 to 1/1000 if you open aperture by one stop (f:8 -> f:4). It should rather go to 1/4000 (which you said is impossible, but anyway).

The flash was at -1.5(i lower it to avoid BOH,because of the white b/g).Let my explain to you vibeke whats going on.I set the f value to f:8 (otherwise i don't have 1/2000).When i try to lower the f value to f:4 my camera automatically sets the shutter speed to 1/1300.I try it with this setting & i wasn't pleased with the result.

& an other thing...I used flash.Why there's no shadow from the water drops on the b/g...?My cameras lens was placed about 5 cm from the spot i manualy focus.If i had a d-slr with other lens i could go even closer(because this is the closer i can get with my camera,if i go closer i can't even focus manualy)...?Questions...questions!!!

Well, better you take this discussion over to the forum -- I think a lot of people would like to get some inspiration and it would be easier to attach pictures to show certain effects… But don't reveal your contest id however, so maybe you better wait until this contest finishes.

Fortunatelly no paint on camera... but paint eveywhere (as you see in the shot,too)!
