Actually it is. A mineral is an inorganic substance found in the earth as metal ore. Bismuth is a brittle metal, often found with lead, zinc, or copper, and frequently occurs in it's native form with an iridescent oxide tarnish showing many refractive colors from blue to yellow. Bismuth, often with impurities, is melted down and 'regrown' to create hopper crystals. Lower grade bismuth produces blue courser crystals while higher grade bismuth produces more of a rainbow effect.

OK. I stand corrected. Technically, it is a mineral... maybe I'll go "grow" some gold.

Why not. People melt, refine, and wear it on their hands all the time. Doesn't mean it's no longer gold. If you could grow it, you'd make a killing. I'd go for it

i would like to see this in HDR though the colors are stunning, its seems somewhat flat to me, it is an amazing shot if it is rock then i want to be able to feel some texture from the shot and i can't see that from this, maybe in HDR?

Bismuth does occur free in nature and in such minerals as bismuthinite (Bi2S3) and bismite (Bi2O3).

They are part of a 40 metre tall basalt cliff and thankfully are preserved from humans as they are in a National Park. They are very impressive to look at in real life.
