mv96: GREAT idea! (2 years and 337 days ago)
nofue: Just a reminder: shooting people is always a problem and needs a model release if the photo gets published. If there's no model release, the photog and the publisher may get sued for infringement of privacy and whatever. And as web is an international affair, lots of rules and laws apply. Not the luckiest choice for a contest, imho. (2 years and 337 days ago)
nofue: No problem, as long as they signed a mr. As a photog you have to proof that the model agreed to her picture being shown in public. (2 years and 337 days ago)
nofue: http://www.photoattorney.com/2005/09/rights-of-privacy-concerns-for.html (2 years and 337 days ago)
nofue: This is from 2005 and things got worse ever since. So be careful. (2 years and 337 days ago)
outbackjack: Rules vary in different countries nofue. In Australia you can shoot and print the shot for public viewing however you may not use their image for adversing, product or service promotion without their consent. You can find the different regulations on line via your states authorities. (2 years and 336 days ago)
nofue: Outbackjack -- sure, but can you guarantee that this site is seen in only one country? (2 years and 336 days ago)
mellanieb: Perhaps we should keep it to animals since with don't need their permission ! (2 years and 336 days ago)
bluefly: I know the paparazzi don't get mr's and they publish what they want anyway. So the point is mute. (2 years and 336 days ago)
nofue: Be careful, mod, paparazzi a.) get sued regularly, and b.) publish as 'news' which has a special state. This contest is surely not 'news' in the sense of the law. I know it's tough and I studied international copyright laws for some semesters, and my advice is that you should consult an attorney before putting somebody (2 years and 336 days ago)
nofue: continued… somebody's picture into the public without written consent. (2 years and 336 days ago)
kyricom: Generally, in the United States, if you are in a public place, taking pictures of a person in public, you are fairly safe under the First Amendment. This does not necessarily hold true however, if you use the image for profit. And, paparrazi win if they are in a public place. If they climb over walls etc they can get into trouble. (2 years and 335 days ago)
nofue: Well, I think if a discussion is needed, there's a forum. As I said, there are a lot of different laws and decisions and what may be legal in one country is prohibited in another. The final conclusion is, however, that it's better to be safe than sorry. (2 years and 335 days ago)
Epazia: I am an American Lawyer if you would like to know what the law is in this Country on this issue your welcome to send me a note ill give you the skinny. For the rest of you I would no more listen to Nofue then ignore him do the research on your own for your own country its easy enough. (2 years and 335 days ago)
outbackjack: It does not matter if an image taken in Australia is displayed in other countries the rule is still the same as long as it is not used for advertising to make money. I have had this discussion before with professional photographers on other blogs in Australia. By the way why don't you start the forum nofue instead of initiating it here?? (2 years and 335 days ago)
Lodd: What's the number limit to crowd? (2 years and 334 days ago)
outbackjack: would have to be at least four people in the group but you don't need to see four whole bodies, the picture needs to convey a sense of a group not just a couple of individuals, imho (2 years and 334 days ago)
outbackjack: I see quite a few pics off topic, to get a face in a crowd you will either have to use some zoom and pic a face to focus on in a crowd or have something in the pic that frames the face for you, like a face looking out a bus window with a crowd around the bus. The face needs to be noticeable that it stands out. (2 years and 334 days ago)
Epazia: i agree, alot of shots of just crowds (2 years and 334 days ago)
bluefly: Does the face need to be looking at the camera? Would it be fine if the face was taking a picture of someone else? (2 years and 331 days ago)
